The oak tree was planted in Cambridge Park In Remembrance of Prince Albert in 1863.-

The image is believed to be of Major General Sir Marcus John Slade himself, his wife Charlotte and daughters Fanny (b1845) and Helen (1854).

The Major General was Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey from 1859 until 1864. ( He died in March 1872).

The girl (Helen) seated next to Sir Marcus looks about ten years of age, so the photograph at a guess could have been taken in 1864 - the original is on a carte de visite.

The inscription on the seat reads:-

THIS OAK TREE
IN REMEMBRANCE
OF ALBERT THE PRINCE CONSORT
WAS PLANTED BY CHARLOTTE WIFE OF
MAJOR GENERAL SIR MARCUS JOHN SLADE BART
GOVERNOR OF THIS ISLAND
1863
