THE CELLAR CLUB, NIGHT LIFE & OUTINGS 1960s/70s
There is little information online at the time of writing listing the Cellar Club in Guernsey. Maybe more information and images can be sent my way for inclusion on the website oldphoto@cwgsy.net...
A very old Facebook post by Stewart Rothwell says " The Club as I understand it was jointly owned by Terry Freake who had the Channel islands Hotel and Dereck Valentine. Terry put up the dough and Valentine ran it. Both now deceased and eventually the club was sold to another pal of ours namely Mike Allan. He sold it off much later and I think all the land was developed for banks."
Some of the more recent photos have been kindly given to the archive by Francoise who came to Guernsey with about 90 other girls for the tomato season starting in 1968 to work for a Mr Gaudion. Then... end of the day... direction 'The Cellar Club' ... with mini skirts and long hair!
The tomato workers were dispatched around the island for work. At the end of the day the girls were directed to the factory in St St Sampson's to sort out the tomatoes ( the round ones, the oval ones etc...). Francoise's job was relaxed... stamping each box and taking them to the machines...
Other images from Francoise are in FARMING & GLASSHOUSES
