George Metivier

George Metivier (1790 -1881) was described in his day as Guernsey's, Robert Burns by Victor Hugo. He published most of his poems in Guernsey French.

This image comes from an unknown photographers carte de visite. It appears to be an exact copy of the previous Arsene Garnier image, maybe he sold the negative. There is also a painting which uses the image as the base pose -- see below.

Though the red border around this CDV is similar to Julian Maguire's CDV photographs, it is not the same as his corners were not rounded like this example.

There is a painting held by the Guernsey Museum and Art Gallery which appears to be a copy of this photograph. Apologies to Art UK
