The Albert Pier before the Prince Consort Statue was built in 1863
The Albert Pier before the Prince Consort Statue was built in 1863

This photograph shows a pile of rubble that could have been used for the foundations in the construction of The Prince Albert Memorial Statue which was erected in 1863 and inaugurated on the 8th October 1863. Alternatively though less likely, it could be for works on the Albert Pier.

On the far right of the image under the crane can be seen a wooden structure which could have been used in the wooden landing works carried out at the end of the Albert pier also in 1863.

This salt paper print is one part of an image from a stereo camera which only had one lens.
Each individual photograph had to be taken separately (usually a few seconds apart) and because of this, people or other moving objects are liable to have changed position - this has happened with this stereo view.
