The view shown here would have looked like this when Victor Hugo first visited Guernsey in 1855.

1838 -- North Pierhead adapted for landing Passengers and a wooden crane installed for the shipment of cattle.


1859 -- Work of rebuilding home arm of the North Pier began.


1893 -- The North Pier (now normally called the Crown Pier) was rebuilt.
