This image shows a hive of activity when the exporting of fruit was in full swing. The horse was king in those days not the motor car.

One curious point I have noticed is that everyone seems to be driving on the right instead of the left! Maybe as the offloading of produce was on the right at the harbour, it was more expedient to swap on this stretch of road to avoid problems.
