An unusual view looking towards the bottom of St Julian's Avenue and the Royal Hotel etc.
The photo was taken prior to 1888, as the Royal Hotel extension had not been started. The scaffolding of the newly completed extension was reported as having beeen removed by the 'Comet' on the 19/6/1889.
St Julian's Avenue pier has also not been widened at the Weighbridge. The new widened wall was reported as being finished apart from the pointing by the 'Comet on the 15th April 1891.
The ship in the harbour is the 'Islander' and was recorded on the local 1881 census as being docked at St Sampson's in that year.
