The writing on the building of 3 Church street says, 'N. LIHOU'S TEMPERANCE TEA & COFFEE HOUSE'.

This establishment was run by Nicholas Lihou who's name appears on the 1871 census as living at 3 Church Street and is listed as a Coffee-house Keeper. His age is given as 69. He was born in Alderney.

Nicholas was married to Elizabeth and was born in 1806 in the Vale and was 65 in 1871.

Their granddaughter Elizabeth was with them in 1871 aged 3.
Also living with them, as a lodger in 1871 is Rachel Lihou aged 74, Charwoman; this is possibly Nicolas' sister-in-law, (nee Quevatre). She was born in Alderney.
